A disturbance among prisoners m the tailoring shop at Bathurst gaol, said to he the most serious that has ever occurred at the gaol, resulted in 30 machines being smashed. The damage is estimated at £IOOO. The trouble, which was preceded by a fight- between two prisoners, was quelled by the governor threatening to call in the police. After the fight between the two men the remainder of •the prisoners resumed work, hut biter one man picked up a hammer and smashed the head of a sewing machine he was operating The other prisoners immediately set about v recking their machines.
