PRICE RISES AGAIN.
COLD NOW, £7 83 9d AN OUNCE.
(United Press Association —Copyright LONDON, November 22.
Gold rose to £7 8s 9d a fine ounce in London to-day, the highest level since £7 9s 4d was touched in 1935.
The price was affected by the sharp fall in sterling due to a strong demand for dollars as a result of the uncertainty of the international situation. The report that the German Ambassador in London (Dr. von Dirksen) might be recalled, and the tension existing between America and Germany, were contributory factors. The dollar, rose to 4.67$ to the £ sterling, its highest sterling value since 1933, except on September 28 of this year, before Mr Chamberlain’s announcement that he intended visiting Herr Hitler. The dollar later became steadv, hut there were no signs that the British Exchange Control was operating. Stock markets were dull.
