ASHBURTON COMPETITIONS. MATCHES ON SATURDAY. The Ashburton County Cricket Association’s competitions were continued on Saturday, when wickets were in excellent order and fine weather was enjoyed. Scoring in the senior grade was generally fairly low, but Ashbbrton, after a. poor start made 239 for the loss of nine wickets. An excellent stand was made by P. Allen and H. E. A win by 96 runs on the first innings was secured by Fairfield when it played Kia Ora at Fairton on Saturday. The home team, batting first, made 199, to which Kia Ora replied with 103. There were no particularly high individual scores, the most successful batsmen of the winning team being R. T. Drennan with 46, A. McCall with 39 and Don McKay with 29. ASHBURTON v. OLD BOYS. f A decisive victory by 149 runs was secured by. Ashburton in the senior fixture against Old Boys at Ashburton. Old Boys w'ent in first and knocked up 90 runs, to which Ashburton replied with the fine total of 239. The outstanding batting scores were made by P. Allen (91) and H. E. Cook (70) both of the Ashburton team, while B. Knox (20) made the only good score for Old Boys.
