The Shanghai correspondent of “The Times” says that the military and civil authorities are held responsible for the fall of Canton, for which the Chinese Government has ordered them to atone for blunders.

The Huomin News Agency states that Marshal Chiang Kai-Shek has instructed the Kwangtung armies to recover Canton within a fortnight. The establishment of such unity was the fundamental aim of the present “unofficial warfare.” He added that Japan was confident that other Powers would adapt their attitudes to the new conditions in East Asia.
