Tire German steamer Vaucouver was sunk -at Oakland (California) by an explosion which the master, W. Moessinger, said might have been caused by a bomb. Four of the crow were injured.
The theory of sabotage is lent credence by a telephone message received by the Tribune,” in which an unidentified person asked the editor: “Do you want some good news? A bomb has just exploded in a German ship.” The speaker immediately terminated the conversation, and a blast occurred a few minutes later.
