STOCK JUDGING.
. YOUNG FARMERS’ CONTEST. AT THE ASHBURTON SHOW. A very successful stock-judging competition was held by the Ashburton County District Committee of Young Farmers’ Clubs at the Ashburton Show yesterday. The young farmers showed their appreciation of the work of. the committee and of the action ol tiie show executive whose generosity made the competition possible, by entering into the competition with great keenness, and as a result there was a very close finish.
There were two competitions and the manner in which the entrants handled the sheep indicated that the knowledge- gleaned from the demonstrators at the recent field day had been pTit to good use. The two breeds of sheep judged were English Leicester and Ryelands. The following were the results:—
Individual placings—B. J. Simmons (Hinds District Club) and D. G. Tait (Hinds District Club) (equal) 1;: J. R. Fleming (Methven Club) 3. The three placed competitors tied, hut on the count back it was found that Messrs Simmons and Tait had placed both breeds in the correct ordey of merit and they were declared tho joint winners. .. .
inter-club competition—Hinds District- Club, 124 points, 1; Methven Club, 92 points, 2; Mayfield Club, 87 points, 3. The winning team was comprised of Messrs E. R. Withell, D. G. Tait, R. J. Simmons, and Alan McKenzie. The Hinds District Club also was decided the winner of a. challenge cup donated by one of their interested supporters, and juessrs Tait and Simmons will hold the cup for six months each.
