ST. JAMES THEATRE. AVheoler and Woolsey, the two highvoltage funmakers of the screen, take to the air in what is said to he the maddest, merriest of all their comedies, the new RKO Radio picture, “High Flyers,’’ which commenced at the St. James this afternoon. There will he another matinee to-morrow. Fiery Impe is their leading lady, with Marjorie Lord, Margaret Dumont, and Jack Carson appearing in prominent roles. The comedians are cast as operators of a trick airplane concession, with AA’hoelor as a grounded aco giving flying lessons, while AVoolsey officiates as “barker.” Trouble starts when the pair accept a proposition, to fly out to sea and pick up a package which will be tossodi overboard from' an incoming steamer. They steal a plane from the harbour police, meet the steamer and get the package. It contains jewels belonging to Arlington, owner of a country estate, which have been stolen aboard the steamer by a confederate of the crook who employed them. Other players in the cast are Charles Judels, Lucien Prival, Herbert Evans, Herbert Clifton, and George Irving. The picture* was directed by Edward Cline and produced by Leo Marcsu. “Riding AVild,” starring Tim McCoy, is also in the programme. DANNY MALONE. CHURCH CONCERT AT RAKAIA. 1 "A successful concert, organised by the young people of the St. Andrew s Presbyterian Church, Rakaia, was held in the Town Hall on Tuesday evening. The proceeds were, in aid of Presbyterian missions which will benefit considerably. 'I he programme included items by Miss Mary Ashford, impersonations; Misses Margery and Gwenyth, Lee, vocal duet; Air S. AVilson, recitation s; Miss G wenyth Lee, song in character; Mr Mervyn Hopkins, song; Mr AValter Ashford, ‘conjuring; Messrs J. Crozier and, Lloyd Burrow,es, instrumental duo. Singing cowboy and nigger minstrel items were presented by we company. A one-act play, entitled, “The Firefighters,” was given by Miss Gwenyth L ee and Messrs Lloyd Burrowes and S. Wilson. Another play, “The Poison Party,” was presented by Misses Mary Ashford and Margery Lee, and Messrs Mervyn Hopkins, AValter Ashford, S. AVilson, and Norman Shannon. Misses T. Morrison and M.
