GOOD PROGRESS.
OIL BORING NEAR GISBORNE. (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 1. “Progress with the oil-boring operations near Gisborne has been wonderfully good, and it should not ho long now before we have a definite idea oi the possibilities of finding a. flow of oil in this country,” said the Hen. P. C. Webb (Minister of Minos) in an interview today. Mr Webb said that the presence or otherwise of a How of oil would bo proved before Christmas. Mr Webb, who lias been unwell recently, will go to the site of the boring operations after lie has bad a vest, and lie will watch the first few hundred feet of steel casing being placed in position. Preparations have proceeded rapidly so far, but the rate of progress with the boring will depend on the type of ground that it encountered. “It, should not be long now before wo have established or disproved the existence of a flow of oil in New Zealand in payable quantities,” said Mr Webb.
