fifty Years syne. .(From tlie “Guardian,” Nov. 2, 1888). Ashburton A. and P. Show. —Tlie eleventh annual show of stock and implements, under the auspices of the Ashburton Agricultural and Pastoral Association, was held at the grounds of the County Saleya.vds Company today. The weather was dull and there was a very good attendance of the public. The Ashburton Band, was on the ground and at intervals during the day played selections of music. The show was perhaps the most successful ever held in Ashburton. The total numbers of entries was largely in excess of that of any former years and taken all round, the quality of the exhibits was first-class. The officers are: —President, Air J. C. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO , (From the “Guardian,” Nov. 2, 1913). A Vigorous Resolution. —At a very largely attended meeting of farmers., of the Ashburton County convened by the Farmers’ Union to-day, to discuss the position brought about by the waterside workers’ strike, the following resolution was unanimously carried: “That, this representative meeting of the Ashburton Farmers’ Union, Ashburton Agricultural and Pastoral Association, and the Ashburton branch of the North Canterbury Seed ana Grain Association, expresses its deepest regret that the Dominion lias been so recklessly precipitated into another strike; that it is imperative in the interests of all that business communications between all parts'of' the, Dominion should be kept open; and that, with this end in view, a committee be appointed to receive applications from able-bodied men who are willing, on receiving reasonable notice, to assist in the work at our port or ports.” The following committee was set up to give effect to the resolution: —Messrs R. Friedlander, AY. T. Lill, A. Drummond, J. Cairns, AY. Harding, E. Horsey, T. Dowling, C. J. Harper, C. Dohlerty, J,. Findlay, J. Grigg, J. Studholme, and ,T. Farrell.
