FRIENDSHIP WANTED.
JAPAN AND BRITAIN. LONDON, October 17. Nobody is more anxious to restore better relations between Japan and the British Empire than Prince Konoye, Prime Minister of Japan, who has decided to take part in direct discussions with the (British Ambassador, Sir Robert Craigie. Prince Konoye does not enjoy the best of health but is eager to face the formidable task of settling many differences that have arisen as a seqiiel to the war in China as a prelude to a wider settlement of general questions. Recent conversations were interrupted by General Ugnki’s resignation, but Air Chamberlain, as part of his world appeasement policy, is anxious .for a better understanding in the Far East simultaneously with Europe. He believes that both can be achieved.
