THE VICTORIA DERBY. (United Press Association—Copyright.) (Received This Day, 11.3 b a.in.) SYDNEY, This Day. “'The 'Sydney Morning Herald,” commenting on the Victoria Derby, says that Nuffield was taken to his top gradually and although Tempest raced almost level with him for about half a furlong in the straight there was never any doubt about the result. Nuffield won the Derby in good style. The “Herald” says that if Royal Chief had any prospects of beating Ajax in the Mack in non Stakes, the object could not have been achieved after the Badger had,/been allowed to loaf along on Ajax in front for about half the journey. There unquestionably is not a horse* racing who could beat Ajax in those circumstances. It would seem that there is not one who can I lent* him in any circumstances.
CANTERBURY RE-HANDICAPS. CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Rebellion has been re-handicapped from 7.7 to 7.13 in the Lin wood Handicap, and Lady Middleham from 7.13 to 8.1 in the Apprentices’ Handicap at the Canterbury Jockey Club’s November meeting.
