OFFENDERS AT WHANGAREI. EIGHT TO PAY TOTAL OF £3lB. (Per Press Association.) WHANGAREI, This Day. Fines totalling £3lB were inflicted by the IVfagistrate thjs morning on eight defendants who were charged as the outcome of a police raid on Saturday. Arthur Clark was fined £IOO for using premises as a gaming-house. The bookmaking business was run as a sideline to dry-cleaning, said a detective. Arthur Lambess, tobacconist, and Charles Schon were similarly fined. All liad previous convictions. The other defendants were fined small sums.
