MATERNAL MORTALITY
BRITAIN’S LOWEST SINCE 1911. BIRTH-RATE HIGHEST SINCE 1932. (United Press Association —Copyrignt.) (Received This Day, 10 a.m.) LONDON, October 30.
The Ministry of Health’s annual report for 1937 shows that there were 5265 more births and 13,810 more deaths than in 1936, The birth-rate, 14.9 per 1000, was the highest since 1932, when it was 15.3. The infant mortality rate is 58, compared with 59.
The maternal mortality rate, 3.26 per 1000 live births, is the lowest since 1911.
Deaths from cancer totalled 66,991, which is 637 above those in 1936.
