“GET OUT”

GERMAN ORDER. TO POLISH JEWS ONLY A MINIMUM OF CLOTHING. POLICE RAIDS THROUGHOUT NIGHT. (United Press Association—'Copyright.) (ReceiA'ed This Day, 9.40 a.m.) LONDON, October 28. A new and intense drive against Polish Jews in Germany and Austria, has been launched, involving immediate imprisonment or expulsion, without belongings, of thousands, who haA'e been summoned from their homes and ordered to “get out,” taking only essential food and minimum clothing. In Vienna 2000 Jcaa's Avere arrested in police raids throughout the, night and are being transported to the frontier.

In Berlin hundreds Avere arrested in lightning raids. It is alleged that their presence is illegal ol' that their passports are inadequate. Raids Avei-e carried out at 5 a.m. in many cities. It is belieA'ed that thousands of Polish Jews avlio were chiefly rounded up will be repatriated to-night.

The Berlin correspondent of the British United Press understands that all Poles, JeAvs and non-Jews ha.A'e been ordered to attend- at their consulates and have their passports specially stamped before the end of October. This is done under the Polish IaAV of March 31 last covering the re-establish-ment of citizenship by Poles long resident abroad. Failure to comply might result in the loss of citizenship, thus depriving the countries in Avhich the Poles are living of the right of deportation. All male Jews Avho Avere not ordered to attend the aliens bureau were rounded up by police. Those over 75, inA’alids and possessors of emigration tickets Avere alloAA'ed to leave.

HERDED IN CATTLE TRUCKS. ALLOWED ONLY 10/- EACH. JEWS COLLECTED IN VANS. (Received This Day, 1.45 p.m.) LONDON, October 28. The, Berlin correspondent of “The Times” says that the extent of the expulsion of Polish JeAvs from Germany and Austria is not yet certain. The Polish Embassy characterises as premature the report that Germany has cancelled their deportation. In the meantime the round-up continues. The position seems to he that if Poland ensures that the persons concerned will not become Avitliout citizenship in Germany the deportation orders will be rescinded.

The ostensible reason for the expulsions, Avhich, allegedly, are not duo to mere anti-Semitism, is that Germany fears that a number of undesirable Polish JeAvs Avould not receive visas from Poland to enable them to re-enter that country, Avherefore they might become a burden on the Reich. Seven hundred Jews are imprisoned at Munich pending a decision.

The Berlin police escorted to the frontier in trains, many in cattle trucks, 4000 from various towns Avhere they had collected them in vans. They aTloAved them to retain only I.os apiece. Many Avomon and children, though not compelled to accompany them, decided to do so.
