VOUCHER FORGED.
accountant found guilty. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, October 28. A verdict of guilty was returned by the jury in the Supreme Court against George Graham, an accountant, aged 63, on a charge of forging and uttering a Maori Land Board voucher for £l6 10s. It was alleged that Graham had forged the signature of Rapata Pita, of Helensville, on February 21, 1936, and had caused a postal official to act upon a forged voucher as if it were genuine. After an absence of more than four hours, the jury returned with a verdict of guilty, adding a strong recommendation to mercy on account of accused’s age- _ . Mr Justice Fair said that the jury could rest assured that the fullest weight would he given to its recommendation. The prisoner was remanded for sentence.
