Famous Designers *Princesses’ French Dolls

“JpRAJTCE” and “Marianne” are the dolls or poupees which the French children sent home by the King and Queen to the Princess Elizabeth and Margaret Rose. France is a dark young lady with blue eyes and her blonde sister iias big dark eyes. They are about a yard high and are proportioned according to their ages. One of the oldest coiffure establishments in Paris created the ' coiffures, and the dolls were dressed by world famous contouriers in clothes designed for every Court and common occasion. In the years to come these dolls and their exquisite clothes will constitute a record of the fashions of this era. Some of the clothes made by the famous French designers are sketched in the illustration at the bottom of this page. In addition to the delightful clothes shown here a complete set of furs were made for the dolls. At Top Left: Lucien Lalong created this party frock in pleated pink organza. The puffed sleeves are trimmed with- light blue forget-me-nots and the belt is of blue ribbon. Top Centre: Close-ups of France and Marianne. Top Right: Maggy Rouff designed this quite different type of party frock in white India silk, trimmed with stars and bowknots. The dress is cut in sections, on each side of which is a bowknot alternating with stars embroidered in gold metal thread. The hat is by le Monnier. . At Centre Left:

Bruyere designed a picture frock of pink organza, embroidered in pink roses and green leaves, with a green velvet sash. At Centre Right: The Jeanne Lanvin party frock is of pale blue organdi, entirely worked in bands, alternating with Valenciennes insertions. At Lower Left: Two delightful outdoor modes are shown. Lueile Paray and Jenny at left and Worth at right. The former is an afternoon ensemble in white, embroidered with appliques of navy leather. Worth’s is„ a linen suit in combination of white and blue-and-white striped linen, blouse and trimmings in the stripe and the belt is of orange leather. At Lower Right: From Jean Patou is the white organza dress, with cordings on the skirt to give it width. A large bouquet of multicoloured flowers is embroidered the front of the skirt. A chou of satin ribbons with long ends is posed at the front of the waist and the doll’s toque is also made of satin ribbons. '"oiled Photo.
