COMMITTED FOR TRIAL.
MOTORIST FACES FOUR CHARGES (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, October 27. Arising out of an accident on the Parnell road on. the evening of September 17, John Irvine Crawford aged 26, a traveller, appeared in the Magistrate’s Court, before Justices of tne Peace, to answer four charges—of intoxication in charge of a car, causing bodily harm to Mrs Phyllis Stevenson, failing to stop and ascertain if anyone was injured, and negligently driving, thefeby causing bodily injury. The intoxication charge was' adjourned sine die.
Evidence showed that Mrs Stevenson had been three weeks in the Auckland Hospital with a cut eye, fracture of a forearm, and bruises. The car was proceeding at-about 25 miles an hour, and when the woman pedestrian was thrown to the roadway the ear continued on. Later, the driver returned to the scene of the accident, and Crawford, told ■a, constable he thought he had struck something. Crawford pleaded not guilty to the three charges, and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial. Bail was renewed.
