BOXING DAY STAKES INCREASED. ASHBURTON TROTTING CLUB. mAt a meeting of the. committee or the- Ashburton Trotting Club on Wednesday evening, the programme for the summer meeting on Boxing Day, as submitted by the programme committee was approved. The Stakes total £3,100, being an increase of £IOO on last year. The class for the Ashburton Trotting Cup has been fixed, for horses assessed at 4.26 or better for two miles, and the stake will be £9OO.

The Boxing Day Handicap, which on previous programmes has been a H mile race, has been altered to 101 furlongs for horstes assessed at 2.44 or better for H miles, and the stake is £4OO.

The 11 mile race starts at a. bend, and the adding of an extra half furlong to this distance will greatly improve the start. The N.Z. Champion Stakes for three-year-olds carries a. stake of £750 while the Winslow Handicap for unhoppled trotters entries a stake of £325 for horses that can do 3.29 or better for 11 miles. The balance of the programme comprises two maiden races for trotters and pacers, a two-mile race for 4.42 class horses, and, a, mile and a half race for 3.34 class horses.

VICTORIA DERBY ACCEPTORS. MELBOURNE, October 27. ' The following are the acceptances for the VICTORIA DERBY, of £o000; 1| miles.—Tregenna, Caragona, Kingdom, Nfiffield, Eort Regal, Tempest, Adi os, Aeolus, Netherlea. New Zealand acceptors for the Hotham Handicap are: Catalogue, Queen of Song, and Sir Regent. GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS. Most summer sports in Ashburton have now been commenced, and tomorrow, if the weather is more favourable than it has been to-day, cricket, tennis, croquet, bowls and golf will draw many enthusiasts to their respective playing grounds. The third series of matches in the first round of the Ashburton County Cricket Association’g senior competitions will be pla.yed. The draw is:— Fairfield v. P.W.1., at Fairfield; Technical v. Ashburton, at Technical; Kin Ora v. Old Boys, at Kia Ora. The junior cricket competition will be continued, one match being played in Ashburton, and the others in country districts. Finals in the Mid-Canterbury golf championships will be decided. The matches starting in the morning, will be played over 36 holes.

In the Domain, bowlers from the Allenton Club are to try conclusions with the Ashburton players. Tennis and croquet clubs have arranged their own matches.
