WOMEN’S INSTITUTES.

ACTIVITIES AT AILENTON. The monthly meeting of the Alienton Women’s Institute was hold on Saturday. The vice-president (Mrs W. 'J. Dickinson) was in the chair. The motto was: “A woman who never makes mistakes, never makes anything else, either.’’ Miss Rohins (of the Association tor Country Education) gaye a lecture on meal planning. A report on the half-yearly meeting was read.

'Hostesses for the meeting were Mesdames G ; Harris, W. Collins, J. H. Ward, W. Hooper, Greer, and J. McElhimiey.

THE MOUNT SOMERS BRANCH. Owing to the indisposition of the president (Mrs A. It. Beckley) the monthly meeting of the Mount Somers Women’s Institute was presided over by Mi’s E'. W. Roberts. It was decided to purchase a challenge cup with the prize money the Institute won at the recent bay in Ashburton. An interesting report of the half-yearly meeting of the Federation was given by the delegate, Mrs J. Quantock. A pianoforte duet was played by Misses D. and L. Wightman. It was decided to hold the November meeting as a special day to assist the relief of the Chinese children. Competitions were won by Mesdames C. J. Johnstone, L. PI. Ruddock, G. L. Hood, L. Wilson, E. W. Roberts, Misses G. Hood and M. Comyns. THE CHERTSTEY BRANCH A decision to a-sk Miss Ray Robins, Association for Country Education tutor, to continue her lectures next year, was made at the monthly meeting of the Chertsey Women’s Institute held in the Pcndarves Hall. A collection was made toward the funds of the Ashburton Health! Camp Committee. ft was decided to compete in the flower section of the Ashburton Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s show. Mrs Wilson reported having purchased goods for Christmas gifts to lepers. Miss Robins gave an address on meal planning. The annual spring flower show was held after the meeting.. The hostesses were Mesdames Wilson, Moore, Holland, and Miss Hampton.
