CANADIAN PROVINCES.
MOVEMENT FOR SECESSION. DISAPPOINTING, TO 'SPONSORS. (United Press Association—Copyright.) OTTAWA, October 25. The Saskatchewan farmers’ movement for secession of the Prairie Provinces is disappointing its sponsors. Manitoba, and Alberta are opposed to the proposal, while British Columbia is lethargic. The Premier of Ontario (Mr Hepburn) declares that the province is at breaking point regarding concessions to the west. The country in general is paying 30,000,000 dollars loss through the guaranteed price of wheat to benefit western farmers, the east paying most'of that.’ 'The movement is based chiefly on alleged discrimination in tire farm implement tariff and the failure of the Government to “peg” wheat at a dollar instead of 80 cents.
It was reported the other day that the Saskatchewan branch of. the United Farmers of Canada adopted a resolution appointing a committee to seriously consider the secession of the Prairie Provinces in favour of a “Western autonomous State within the Empire democratically governed )>y convention.” The resolution alleged tariff discriminations against the farmer, and assailed the failure of tile Government to peg wheat at one dollar instead of at 80 cents.
