CHILDREN AT METHVEN. GREAT VARIETY OF COSTUMES. Tlio annual children’s fancy dress ball was held in the Methven Town Hall on Thursday evening under the auspices .of the Methven Anglican Church. As usual, the function was eagerly looked forward to and the variety ol the children's costumes reflected credit to the parents. This year no prizes were allotted, but each child received a gift. In a speech thanking those responsible for the organisation of the function, the Vicar (The Rev. H. S. Hamilton) referred especially to the work of Alesdames C. Thompson and A. Lawrence in training the children, and asked each to accept a small memento as a mark of appreciation of their labours. Cook’s orchestra, provided music for the children’s dance and for the adults’ dance which followed, Mr A. S. Kennedy contributing extras. Mr E. A. Fitzgibbon was M.C. As a result of the function the funds of the church will benefit considerably. FUNCTION AT HAMPSTEAD. There was a large number of children and adults at the Hampstead Hall for the fancy-dress dance given by the AVomen’s Division of the Ashburton Labour Party. Alaurice Hadley won the boy’s prize for the best fancy-dress and Margaret Smith the girl’s prize. Ottolene Hunt recited and Daphne Childs danced the Highland fling. Items were given by Donald and June Cox, and a Dutch dance by' Esme Ingram and E. Kerr. Owen Rudd gave two mouth-organ solos. Alusic for dancing was played by Airs Pile.
