ON WEDDING DAY
MAN CONVICTED OF THEFT. PROBATION FOR 12 MONTHS. MATE’S WATCH STOLEN. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. When Edward Frederick Olley, a porter, aged 23, was charged with the theft of a watch, Detective-Sergt. P. Doyle said that accused was to be married at 3 o’clock this afternoon, otherwise he would have asked to have-him remanded so that they could make further inquiries. They did not want to interfere with the marriage ceremony. The watch, it was stated, was taken from a man living at the same address, and later pawned. Accused told the police he was short of money at the time.
Accused was placed on probation for 12 months.
