HOCKEY.

ASHBURTON WOMEN’S GAMES. MATCHES ON SATURDAY. The grounds were in fairly good order for the competition matches in the Ashburton Women’s Hockey Association’s matches on Saturday. A. Section. Playing at Ashburton, AVakamii beat Rakaia by 13 goals to nil in a rather one-sided match. For A\ r akanui, P. Brand scored 8 goals, and E. Jary and F. Gudsell 2 each. J. Jary shot one goal. Mr C. Bishop was the referee. Playing at Methven on a ground in splendid order, the Hinus team defeated Methven by five goals to three. Scorers for the winning side were Misses M. Donaldson two, O. Davidison J. Davidson, and J. Lowe one each, while for Methven goals were shot by Misses G. Owen, O. Williams and R. Tyler.’ This was a bright match and play was very even, the Hinds forwards playing well and, their halves keeping well up to them throughout the game. The Metliven forwards did not play at all well in the first half, but toward the end of the game were playing splendidly. Methven were unfortunate to lose one of their best backs .near the beginning of the game. Both teams at times displayed good hockey tactics. Mr AY. T. Corbett was referee. B. Section. Playing with two members short, Timvald were defeated by Methven at Ashburton. It was a very even match, and for Methven J. AYilliams scored 2 goals and M. Owen one goal. J. Henderson scored Tinwald’s only goal. The match between Lowcliffe and Hinds was very one-sided, Lowcliffe beating the home 'fleam by 10 goals to nil. The scorers were Miss E. Dutton (8), and Miss J. ixarris (2). Most of the Lowcliffe team were last years’ seniors, and this team will be transferred to the A section next week. C. Section. In a very interesting game played at Ashburton, AVakanui defeated Methven by 4 goals ter 0. Many of the young players showed very good form. For AVakanui, J. Crawford shot two goals and N. Ford and M. Amos one each. Mr K. Fowko was the referee. THE MEN’S MATCHES. Two matches wore played in Ashburton on -Saturday in the Ashburton Men’s Hockey Sub-Association competitions.

Baring Square beat Ashburton by 3 goals to 2 in a closely contested match. Ashburton were without the services of two of their regular players which perhaps accounted for their being beaten. Both teams put on a good' performance. For Baring Square K. Macfarlane shot two goals and K. Lill 1. H. -Stewart and J. Samuels scored • the goals for Ashburton. In the match between AVakanui and Thistle, the former team showed superior combination in the forwards, and won by 5 goals to Thistle’s 1. For AVakanui, H. AAYlson scored 2, and A. Anderson, F. Bennett, J. Kenny one each. H. Gowans shot Thistle’s only goal.
