HERRING INDUSTRY.
STATE AID IN BRITAIN. (United Press Association—Copyright.) LONDON, May 19. The Secretary of State for Scotland (Colonel D. J. Colville) in the House of Commons moved the second reading of the Herring Industry Bill, which gives a large measure of financial assistance to this industry. He declared that the Government intended to continue to assist the export trade and also develop home consumption.
The measure was welcomed in general by both sections of the Opposition and the Bill passed the second reading.
