STEAMER STOPPED.
NO MUNITIONS IN CARGO. THE STANCROFT RELOADED. (United Press Association—Copyright.) (Received This Day, 9.50 a.m.) GIBRALTAR, May 20. An official examination of the British steamer Staneroft’s cargo revealed that no munitions were on board. The cargo is being reloaded. A London cablegram dated May 13 stated: The Gibraltar correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” says that as a result of information from the NonIntervention Board the British destroyer Hyperion stopped the London steamer Stancroft on the high seas between Barcelona and Valencia. The destroyer escorted the steamer to Gibraltar, where her cargo is being examined. The' Stancroft is alleged to be carrying arms- to Spain. The Stancroft was one of the British steamers in Barcelona harbour when it was bombed by rebel aeroplanes on April 30. The master of the Stancroft subsequently joined a number of other British merchant captains in a protest to the British Foreign Office against the alleged complacence of the British Government toward, the bombardment.
