THE MAYFIELD COLLIE CLUB. FIRST EVENT COMPLETED. The first event in the annual flog trials of the Mayfield Collie Club, on the property of Mr J. Grieve, “Evaudalo,” Surrey Hills, was completed yesterday. The class, which comprised 55 entries, began on Thursday. All the dogs worked well, though the sheep, which were provided by the Mount Somers Estate were inclined to drift along the ridges on the course. The judge is Mr C. F. Bassett, of Oxford. Results were: — LONG PULL, OPEN. (About -TOO yards.) Time limit, 8 minutes). ,T. Quales’ Bess, 51J points ... 1 W. J. Boss’s Toby, 51 points ... 2 ,T. Quale’s Glen, 45 points ... 3 T. S. Johnstone’s Tay, 411 points . 4

Bess cast to the right and ran out well on a wide course without stopping. She -headed in a good position, was under good command, and lifted the sheep carefully. Although rash in the first part of the pull, she steadied well about halfway down the course. Her ring work was good. Toby cast to the right, and ran out in a good line. He headed nicely and lifted carefully, but the sheep drifted and he recovered well. The pull was fair and the command was good. Glen cast to the right and took a wide course. He set and moved the sheep before heading. The pull was fair, but along a zig-zag course. District Event—W. J. Ross’s Toby, 51 points 1; G. Greenwood’s Scot, 47 points, 2; C. Hood’s Tan Again, 46 points 3. District Maiden Event —C. Hood’s Tay, 46 points 1; C. W. Roberts’s Tip 44 points 2; J. Roberts’s Tip 23 points 3.
