METHVEN SHOW

TWENTY-SIXTH EXHIBITION. VERY SUCCESSFUL FIXTURE. THE CONCLUDING AWARDS. There could not have been better weather for the holding of the Alethven Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s twenty-sixth annual display of stock, produce, and domestic arts than that which prevailed on Saturday. The sun shone strongly all day and at times conditions were sultry.

The shoxv proved to be a great attraction, the gate receipts* totalling £137 9s 6d, compared with £79 last year. ' The organisation of the show was excellent and all sections were conducted without any trouble, a fact that was greatly appreciated by patrons and exhibitors, and the president (Mr C. H. Watson) was warmly congratulated on the success of the fixture.

Judging was not started as early as on former occasions, but once the judges had settled down to work the awards came through quickly and many of the section results were announced over the public speaker system which proved its value over and over again in keeping officials and patrons in touch with the progress of the show.

There was much to attract the interest of patrons in every department of the show and the high quality evident drew a full measure of admiration. The machinery section was a large one, and) the exhibits were closely inspected throughout the day. Several side show's were conducted in. the intei’ests of the Association, and these did very good business, a handsome sum being placed to the credit of the Association. A merry-go-round and chair-o-plane added to the festive air of the grounds. The grand parade of prize-winning stock was a feature of the day and other portions of the show were deserted while the parade was in progress. The parade was headed by the persident and the Methven Pipe Band, which also played during the afternoon. '

Mr H. E. Herring, AI.P., telegraphed from Bulls (Manawatu) expressing regret that he could not attend the show, and hoping that the fixture woidd again be a big success.
