LODGE MEETINGS

THE ASHBURTON DRUIDS. The fortnightly meeting of the Star of Ashburton Lodge, U.A.C.D., was held last evening, Bro. P. G. Morrison, A.D., presiding over a large attendance, including visitors from the Success of Ashburton Lodge. Motions of sympathy with Bro. J. Drummond: in his recent bereavement: and with the relatives of the late Bro. J. Dobbin were carried in silence. The Bards reported on sick members, and sick pay in favour of 15 members was passed. Advice was received from Grand Lodge that increased benefits from the Grand Lodge Benefit Fund would take effect from December 1, 1937.

The annual report and balance-sheet of the New Zealand Friendly Societies’ Mutual Fidelity Guarantee Association was received. On© candidate was initiated and one propqsal for membership was received. Sister T. Eyles, D.P., installed Bro. R.. T. Latimer, iP.A., as D.P. for No. 8 District for the current term. Sister Eyles was congratulated by the lodge on the manner in which she carried out her duties as D.P. during her term of office. Sister Eyles thanked the members for their remarks.

Bro. Morrison reported on the recent cricket matches with the Temuka Lodge and stated that return matches would be played toward the middle of February at Ashburton. At the close of the lodge supper was handed .round and table tennis was played for an hour.

ROYAL ARCH CHAPTER. A meeting of the R.A. Chapter, No. 8, was held last evening, P.G.P., Bro. C. Ives, R.D., presiding. The No. 5 RA. Chapter (Timaru) invited entries for the Morgan Efficiency Shield competition commencing in March. It was decided to recommend to the Star and Success of Ashburton Lodges that they enter for this competition. On the motion of Bros. A. C. Vincent and E. Parkin, it was decided to hold competitions for the P.A., A.D., and V.A.D. charges in order to select teams for the W. Christmas memorial shield competition. Bro. W. J. Giblett, P.A., was initiated into the Chapter by Bro. C. Ives. Bro. T H Pennall, R.V.A.D., delivered the P.A. Lecture and Bro.. H. A. Vesty gave the Grand President’s address.
