A GAMING BREACH.
ADVICE OFFERED TO BETTORS. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, January 21. A fine of £SO, with an order for costs, was imposed by Mr C. R. Orr Walker, S.M., on Norman Wilkinson, who was charged on summons with sending a circular with intent to induce a person to apply to obtain advice for wagering on horse races— a breach of the gaming Act. Wilkinson did not appear. A detective said that he saw Wilkinson collecting letters from two private letter boxes at the Post Office. Wilkinson admitted to the detective that he had issued 600 or 700 copies of a printed publication called the “Turf Review.” Two of the letters collected by Wilkinson contained money, and the third a request for information about a betting double, Knight of Australia and Ben Braggie.
The circular Avas read aloud by, the Magistrate to the amusement of those in Court.
“It was a well-worded circular, and apparently had taken a few mugs in,” said the Magistrate.
The police said that Wilkinson had tAvo previous convictions for gaming offences, the last time being fined £IOO. “Has he left Auckland?” asked the Magistrate.
“Well, he is not here to-day,” replied Detective-Sergeant McHugh.
