MUSEUMS ABROAD.
AN AUCKLANDER’S TOUR. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, January 21. -----Everywhere museums are becoming more and more aware of their educational functions, and educational authorities are becoming aware of the facilities and opportunities museums can afford them,” said Mr Gilbert Archey, director of the Auckland War Memorial Museum 1 on his return by tW Monterey from a year’s tour of England and America. He said it was difficult to evaluate museums abroad in a few words because they dealt with such widely different subjects. Many were quite poor and some, especially in America, were immensely rich. There was one activity, however, common to all, an eager endeavour to expand and improve collections. In Toronto he saw what was pi’obablv the Empire’s finest museum outside Britain. It was a worthy rival to immense museums of the United States.
