TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO. (From the “Guardian,’’ Jan. 21, 1913.) The Pictures.—The new programme of films to be.screened at the Theatre Royal this week promises to be an exceptionally good one. The bill is headed by a star Kalen drama, “Jim Bludso of the Prairie Belle,” and is an adaptation of the famous poem of that name. “Captain Rivera’s Reward” is the title of another star film, and gives a story of brigandage among the mountains. The balance of the programme includes the following films: “The Cats’ Cup Final,” “The Manufacturing of Sigiia China,” “The. Training of the London Firemen.” “In the Northwards,” “Mr Grouch at the Seaside,” “The Hobo Club,” “Gaumont Graphic,” etc. Good Trout Caught. —On Saturday, fishing at the mouth of the Ashburton River, Mr J. _ Ede landed a trout weighing 12£ pounds. Water Supply Runs Out —Some time ago householders, were asked to desist from watering their gardens on Sundays, so that the staff employed at the pumping station might be relieved as far as possible from the necessity of working on the day of rest. The request was accompanied by a mild warning, but neither expedient has been very effective, and this morning at 7 o’clock the town water supply had run out.
