The palm for the longest distance ever covered by a runner must go to a 47-year-old Swedish athlete, Sigurd Apelkvist, who recently ran across Europe—lsoo miles. His route was that taken by the famous Swedish warrior, King Charles Nil., in his ride from Rumania in 1714. Apelkvist began this great run by averaging 32 miles a day, and increased his speed daily to finish at the rate of 44 miles a day.
