LOOKING BACK.

FIFTY YEARS SYNE. (From the “Guardian,” Nov. 24, 1887.) Robin Hood Combination—The Robin Hood Combination, a variety company of ten artists, opened in the Oddfellows Hall last evening to a fair audience but not at all commensurate with the merits of the company. The first part consists of the usual halfcircle busines*,the comic element being supplied by Messrs Dickey and Petherick, the former being especially good. Songs were contributed by Messrs Ashford, Kiddle, Sinclair, and Maurice while Mr F. J. Arbuckle acted as interlocutor. After an interval of ten minutes the curtain rose to the second part, which opened witli an overture by Mr Broekett, followed by a master duet by Messrs Arbuckle and Sinclair, and a ballad by Mr Ashford. The next item on the programme, an Irish song and dance by Mr S. Dicky was loudly applauded,, and he responded by dancing a sailor’s hornpipe in a style which has never been equalled in Ashburton. Mr Maurice followed with “Queen ot the Earth,” which lie sang in first-class style. The serio-comic part of the programme was supplied by Messrs Petherick and Arbuckle, tbe second part being brought to a close by S. Dicky, in his Irish specialties, for which he had an undeniable encore, to which lie responded by dancing an Irish jig in inimitable style. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO. (From the “Guardian,” Nov.
