ASHBURTON STOCK’SALE PRICES SHOW IMPROVEMENT SMALL YARDING PRESENTED. An Improvement was shown in the prices realised at the fortnightly sale at the Ashburton yards to-day compared with the very poor sale at Tim wald last week when prices dropped about os a head. Prices opened up at 2s better and toward the close of the sale extra prime quality showed an advance of from 4s to ss. There was a small yarding, but the quality was up to the average. The top price for fat ewes in the wool was 29s for a pen sold on account of C. Taylor (Winclimore), and shorn ewes made up to 26s 7d for 8 vended on account of A. Copland (Dromore). There were only a few pens of fat wethers forward, five in the wool sold on account of a client realising 28s 4d, while R. C. Carter (Norlands) received 27s 6d for one shorn. Fat lambs brought from 24s Gd to 28s 4d, the latter being received by W. Merrin (Tinwald). The freezing buyers were operating at opening schedule prices. There was a good selection and a better general demand for merinos and crossbreds. New Zealand greasy crossbred, DC in square, sold up to 12d. THE BRADFORD TOPS MARKET. (Received This Day, 1.45 p.m.) LONDON, November 22. The Bradford tops market is quiet. Merinos and fine crossbreds are weak. Sixty-fours are quoted at 29d, obtainable at a. shade less than fine. Crossbreds: Fifty-sixes are quoted at 22d. Lower sorts are steady. DOMINION PRODUCE. HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated November 20, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London :—- Tallow—Little more inquiry; quotations unchanged. Hemp—Manila: Market firmer early this week on Japanese buying. “K” grade for January-March shipments sold up to £26, easier at the close; closing values £25 10s. Output January 1 to November 15, 1,291,000 bales, against 1,164,000 for the same period last year. Stocks in United Kingdom November 1, 8268 bales, against 10,081 at the same time last year. Stocks in Manila November 15 167,000' bales, against 152,000 for the same period last year. Sisal: Market quiet but steady; quotations unchanged. New Zealand : Little more interest shown. Sales reported “Fair” £23 10s; “Common” £22; “Rejected” £2l. Stocks in London November 1, 22 tons, against 81 tons at the same time last year. Eggs—Market firmer. English, national pack, 21s 6d to 255; English, ordinary pack, 22s 6d to 23s 6d; Danish, 13s 3d to 17s ; Australian, 11s to 13s 6d. Fruit—Apples: Market quiet and steady. Californian IS’ewtmvns, 10s 6d to 11s; Washington Jonathans, 8s to 10s; British Columbian Jonathans, 7s 6d to 10s ; Newtown Pippins, 10s to 10s 6d; Delicious, few at 10s; Winesap, 8s 6d to 9s 6d.
