DRASTIC STEP
LONDON CATTLE SHOW. EVERY EXHIBIT TO BE KILLED. PRECAUTIONS AGAINST DISEASE. .United Press Association—Copyright.) (Received This Day, 1.25 p.m.) LONDON, November 22. Conditionally on every exhibit being slaughtered in London after the show, because of foot-and-mouth disease, the Ministry of Agriculture has given permission for the Smithfield Club to hold its cattle show in Islington in December.
The King will send entries. The cattle and sheep entries total 1000. Questioned in the House of Commons, in view of the seriousness of foot-and-mouth disease, the House would be given an opportunity to discuss the matter before Christmas, the Prime Minister (Mr Neville Chamberlain) said that although serious, the position was not alarming. There was no reason to suppose that measures effective in the past would not again be successful. The position was being watched carefully. THE KING’S FARM IN AREA. NO CATTLE AT EXHIBITION. LONDON, November 22. # •The King’s farms at Sandringham are now within the infected area-, therefore cattle from this estate will be barred at the Christmas exhibitions.
