EIGHT YEARS’ GAOL.
SAVAGE ASSAULT IN SYDNEY. (United Press Association —Copyright.) SYDNEY, November 22. Sentencing Alick Bannerman, aged 62, to eight years’ imprisonment, Mr Justice Marked described him as a fiend who behaved like a savage animal. Bannerman went to the home of Mrs Dorothy Houghton, at Mosman, seeking gardening, work, and when she turned away ho knocked her down and kicked her into insensibility. Bannerman did the same thing with her four-year-old son. Their lives were despaired of for three weeks. Fourteen stitches were inserted in the woman’s face and 100 stitches in the son’s face, resulting in a permanent disfigurement of the child. Bannerman expressed regret. He said his only explanation was that lie was a wine drinker and he was unable to control himself.
