ENTERTAINMENTS.

ST. JAMES THEATRE. “WEE WILLIE WINKIE.” The St. James Theatre was crowded for the week-end presentation of “Wee Willie Winkie, featuring Shirley Temple, which will be shown finally this evening. There is an excellent comedy on the bill. Picturesque Lionel Barrymore brings his infallible artistry to the St. James Theatre to - morrow and on Wednesday in new guise, serving incomparably in Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer’s “The Devil Doll.” The elder genius of the gifted Barrymore family plays a role that would be peculiarly arresting by a competent actor. Portrayed by him it is truly remarkable. In thjs story of a half-mad scientist who evolves a. scheme that threatens all humanity, that first appeared as a novel which A. Merritt titled, “Burn, Witch, Bur|n,” the distinguished Barrymore is a paradox of kindly scientist and fiendish villainy. Frank Lawton, playing the romantic lead opjiosite Maureen O’Sullivan, combines with her to weave an adventurous love element in the strange story of a human revenge that is made more terrible by its affiliation with the secrets of science. SCOTTISH SOCIETY’S DANCE. An unusually large number attended the weekly dance of the Ashburton County Scottish Society in the Orange Hall on Saturday evening. Monte Carlos were won by Misses M. Dick and M. Read, Miss M. Ford and Mr J. Banks, Miss G. Ritchie and Mr H. King, and Miss W. Read and Mr A. Solway. The lucky spot was won by Miss M. Samuels and Mr Iv. Kenny. Music was played by Cook’s Orchestra, and extras were given by Mrs McGregor and Messrs G. Chilton and A. Dolphin. Mr T. McGregor and Mr G. Chilton were Masters of Ceremonies.
