OBITUARY.

SISTER L. M. WOLFF. The death of Miss Lucie Mabel Wolff, a sister on the nursing staff of the Ashburton Public Hospital, occurred at Ashburton on Saturday, after a shoit lllllGSS. Miss Wolff, who was- 27 years old, was a daughter of Mr and Mrs Jt. Wolff, of Timaru, and received her education at the Timaru Girls’ High School. She received her general nursing training at the Ashburton Public Hospital, and after passing the State examination, took her maternity training at Gisborne, returning to Ashburton at the beginning of this year to take a sister’s post on the staff. She was a very capable member of the nursing profession and showed a sympathetic disposition to the patients under her care. Miss Wolff was fond of sport, being a keen tennis and badminton player. She was a member of the Ashburton Badminton Club. The flag at the Ashburton Public Hospital was flown at half-mast out of respect for Miss Wolff. The funeral took place at Timaru today. Mr Robert Andrew Malcolm, well known for many years in Christchurch as a school teacher and popular concert entertainer died on Saturday. Born on June 17, 1874, in Robert Burns’s house in Dumfries, Scotland, Mr Malcolm when eight years of age arrived in New Zealand with his parents. They settled in Canterbury, where his father was headmaster successively of tlio Hinds, Longbeach, View Hill, and Marshland schools. Mr Malcolm received his education at these schools, and in 1889 he was appointed a pupil teacher at Marshland. He went to the Christchurch Training College in 1894, and was headmaster at the Springston South, Sydenham, St. Albans, Temuka, Kaiapoi, and Waimataitai schools. He reretired on superannuation in 1931 after 42 years’ service. As elocutionist and humorist Mr Malcolm was widely known and popular. From 1913 to 1936 he assisted in no fewer than 8-10 entertainments and gave nearly 3000 items. Hot was twice president of the Canterbury Caledonian Society. . . . . . ...
