Making Most Of One’s Face Skin And Muscle Improvement

A' THIN face and fine, sensitive skin, ■with its tendency to early wrinkles needs more than ordinary care. If left without the daily issue of skin food it becomes dry and harsh. Thorough cleansing is important. A light emollient cream is best for daily use, with a bi-weekly “do” with a cleansing cream. Gentle patting with a mild skin tonic should follow to close the pores. A rich nourishing tissue cream should be applied at bedtime and left on overnight. If the skin is of the type ’that can assimilate only a small quantity of heavy cream, the addition of an equal quantity of muscle oil makes it lighter and more absorbent. Vigorous patting or any rough treatment must be avoided, as it will cause overheating and possible venous congestion. An occasional face pack has a clearing and bleaching effect. Those made with skim-milk, honey or yeast are good for dry skins. Blackheads may be present in nose and chin if the pores are at all coarse in these areas. A wax pack with its pore-deep cleansing action is an excellent method of drawing the plug of sebum to the surface, where it can be easily removed between gauze-covered fingertips. A lather of sulphur soap should be gently massaged into the pores following removal of the blackhead and allowed to remain for several minutes, rinsing off first in warm and then in cold water. An application of lemon juice and water in equal parts assists in closing the pores and refining the texture of the skin. If tenderness results, a light emollient cream may be applied sparingly. A <

heavy nourishing cream has a tendency to aggravate the open pore and blackhead condition. Red spots frequently appear on nose and chin in the thin, sensitive skinned type. Dietetic errors, imperfect cleansing of the skin, or the use of unsuitable cosmetics may be the cause. Where there is marked wrinkling or flabbiness, breathing and facial exercises will assist in repairing wasted tissues. The day should be started with about five minutes of deep breathing at an open window. When sufficient oxygen is taken into the system all body cells are stimulated to normal natural action. Correct deep breathing causes a forced action of the blood, sending it to the farthermost cells of all the tissues, the red corpuscles carrying oxygen to help in rebuilding the worn-out cells. The exercises should be taken slowly at first, and stopped for a short time if a feeling of giddiness is experienced. Inhaling larger amounts of oxygen than one is accustomed to over-stimu-lates temporarily and produces dizziness. The following exercise will develop the sunken tissue of hollow cheeks:— Fold the arms behind the back under the shoulder blades, and with the head thrown back blow at an imaginary object. , v ,■ •* • Another splendid method of building up the throat, chin and cheek areas is the “vowel singing exercise.” The five vowels are sung, on each note of the scale, stressing and exaggerating the. vowel sounds and holding each one while mentally counting five. Look in a mirror and, watch t.he play on the muscles.
