TRIBUTES PAID.

THE LATE MR W. H. ROBINSON. A warm tribute to the work of the late Mr W. H. Robinson on behalf of Friendly Societies in the Ashburton County was paid last evening by the president of the Ashburton United Friendly Societies’ Association (Mr R. G. Ross). Mr Robinson was one of the foundation members of the Association on its inauguration 26 years ago and was trustee for 22 years. Members stood in silence as a mark of respect to the memory of Mr Robinson and their appreciation of the value of his services will be recorded in the minutes. A motion of sympathy with the relatives of Mr Robinson, a member of the executive of the Advance Ashburton Association, was carried in silence at the meeting of the Labour Day Gala committee last evening. The organiser (Mr M. J. Burgess) paid a tribute to Mr Robinson’s work for the town.

Sympathy with the Ashburton Fanciers’ Club in the death of Mr Robinson was expressed last evening at the annual conference of the South Island Poultry, Pigeon, and Canary Association, those present standing in silence. Mr Robinson was for 30 years chairman of the Ashburton Club, and was also president for some years, as well as being a delegate to the conference on several occasions.
