THE LIQUOR TRAFFIC.

MENACE TO MAORIS. (Per Press Association.) HAMILTON, November 18. “The drink problem is one that is ever present among our people. I know that the law does not permit liquor to be supplied to Maoris off licensed premises, but yet it gets among them,” .remarked the Ven. Archdeacon W. Haiti, of Ngaruawahia, when speaking of the work of the Maori Mission at the final celebrations in connection with the inauguration of the new Claudelands Parish. He said lie did not know how Maoris obtained liquor, but it was his opinion that pakehas were behind it. “I don’t know how this menace to our people can be wiped out,” said Archdeacon Haiti, “but I can only hope that the law will be amended in order to remove the present evil. It is tragic to see little children growing up whose parents have been affected by this menace.”
