PRESENTATION TO MR A. E. FREW SMOKE CONCERT AT METHA 7 EN. The popularity of Mr A. E. Frew, Methven agent of Pyne, Gould, Guinness, Ltd., for four years, who lias been transferred on promotion to Pleasant Point, was shown at a smoke concert in his honour at Methven on Monday evening. There was a representative attendance of about 80, Including a good number from Ashburton. Presenting Mr Frew with a handsome walnut eight-day clock and a cheque, Mr R. D. Robinson, of Ashburton, who presided, referred to the very high esteem in whjh Mr Frew was held by the management and staff of Pyne, Gould, Guinness, Ltd., the farming community, and liis fellow agents in the district. He congratulated him on his promotion and expressed the best wishes of the gathering to Mr and Mrs Frew and family in their new home at Pleasant Point. Mr H. E. Parsons, manager of the Ashburton branch of the firm, spoke of the many sterling qualities of Mr Frew and extended best wishes to him. Messrs R. AV. AViglitman, A. AY. Bremner, A. C. Shaw (Timaru), JAVatson, M. Macale, J. Cocks, A. E. Henderson, IT. G. Ferrier, R. Cuttle, S. Jackman, R. AV. Smith and G. Callaghan also paid tributes to Mr Frew’s popularity. The following toasts were honoured: “The King,” proposed by the. chairman ; “Farming Interests,” proposed by Mr R. AV. Smith and responded to by Mr A. A\ r . Russell; “Uur Guest” proposed by the chairman and responded to by Mr Frew; “Mercantile Interests,” proposed by Mr J. Campbell and responded to by Mr M. Cunneen; “The Entertainers,” proposed by Mr G. A. Franks and responded to by. Mr C. C. Brand. „ Items were given by Messrs C. C. Brand (songs), H. Hawkins (recitations), R. AV. Smith (saxophone solos). The accompaniments were played by Mr Trevor Brown.
