FANCY DRESS

METHVEN CHILDREN’S BALL.

A SCENE OF GREAT GAIETY. MANY STRIKING COSTUMES The Methven Town Hall presented a scene of gaiety last night, when the children’s fancy dress ball, in aid of the funds of the Anglican Sunday School, was held. This is tlie big event for the children of the district, and they had been looking forward and preparing for the occasion for many weeks. To help the children to enjoy the occasion to the fullest a willing band of workers has conducted a dancing class throughout the winter. The result of their work was seen when the children took the floor, even the very tiniest tots taking part in the latest ballroom dances with evident enjoyment. Many gaily nooloured and original dresses were worn, giving a gay carnival effect. One hundred and forty children took part in the grand march, after which the various classes were judged by the Rev. Trevor Williams and Mrs W. T. Goodrich (Mount Somers).

Before presenting the prizes to the winners Mr Hamilton complimented those responsible for the very fine display of fancy dresses. In thanking all those who had assisted to make the function such a success he referred especially to Mis 9 Beryl Reid and Mrs A. Lawrence, who had trained the children for many weeks. Ho made them a small presentation as a token of appreciation of their work. Mu Hamilton also referred to the work of Miss A. M. Stone, who was responsible for the organisation, and congratulated her and her many willing helpers on the success of th&ir efforts. After the children’s dance was concluded an adult dance was held.
