TOO MANY HARES

HUNT TO SOME EXTENT SPOILED.

SOME GOOD RUNS OVER COUNTRY

Hunting at Dromore yesterday was spoilt to some extent by a large number of hares being about. There were, however, many good runs over ideal hunting country during the meet, which took place at Dromare, and was arranged by the Ashburton branch of the Christchurch Hunt.

Hounds were cast in Mr R. Campbell’s property, and a strong hare led the followers at a fast pace on to Mr R. Bladder’s farm, where the hare swung to the left across the road into Mr Jamieson’s farm. It doubled back into Mr Blackler’s, but owing to a fresh bare crossing the scent, hounds were checked. It was not long before another hare was raised, and it headed towards Mr Blackler’s. Here, the followers had to skirt some green feed, but the field was soon up with the pack. Unfortunately another fresh hare spoilt the run. Hounds were then packed up. Many horses which have been hunting consistently throughout the season are considered to be in good condition for the point-to-point steeplechase meeting on Saturday.
