GRAIN AND PRODUCE.

CHRISTCHURCH MARKETS. CHRISTCHURCH, May 3. The May increment of Id a bushel on milling and fowl wheat is now payable, Tuscan being at 5s 2d and fowl wheat at the same figure for f.a.q. and 4s lid to 5s Id tor undergrade. There is an excellent demand for seed wheat, and business during the past week has kept merchants busy dressing seed. The fine weather has given a spur to farmers, and the indications are that the appeals made to sow more wheat are having the desired effect. The demand for oats is not very strong, and supplies are limited. Peas are still coming in too soft for shipment, and it is evident that a great deal of the crop will never see export condition.

There is a better demand from the North Island for potatoes, hut there is little forward business passing. Prompts are quoted at £6 and £6 10s for May-June delivery. The following are quotations to farmers on trucks at country stations, sacks extra unless otherwise stated:—

Milling Wheat—F.A.Q., Tuscan, 5s 2d; Hunters, 5s 4d; Pearl, 5s 6d (May delivery). Fowl Wheat—G.W.F., 5s 2d, f.0.b., under-grade, 4s lid to 5s Id (according to quality).
