WESTERN PACIFIC.
JAPAN DESIRES MASTERY. AMBIGUITY OF TERM. TOKIO, February 1. Admiral Suetsugu, writing in the “Osaka Mainchi’ 5 says Japan is determined to maintain undisputed mastery of the Western Pacific, but will never take the initiative in a naval race. All Japan wants is a navy sufficient to defend her shores, not to wage a war of aggression.
The “Japan Chronicle,” in commentng, says everything depends on what Suetsugu means by the Western Pacific.
If Japan claims undisputed mastery of all seas from Singapore to Australia, England, America andJ Holland, will certainly have something to say.
