BREEDING EWES.
Sir, —As the annual ewe fairs are about to start again, the general talk is that “breeding ewes” are going to be very dear, and most farmers who are compelled, to buy have “got the wind up.” They certainly, got a few more shillings for their wool and lambs, but why give it away again? If they do, they will be in the same position as last year (broke). My idea of the value of the sound-mouth ewe, or four-year-olds as they are called, is fat ewe price, about 17s a head, not forgetting that it takes about 5s worth of feed to fatten a ewe; so therefore you are actually paying 225. I think that if the farmer who is compelled to gc on the market bought on these lines there would be less appealing for relief. AATNCHMORE.
