Mr James Thompson was reported to-day to he recovering from an indisposition which has confined him to liis home for the last week.
Constable T. Kennedy, of Invercargill, lias arrived in Ashburton on transfer as successor to Constable It. P. Chibnall in the Ashburton police.
Miss I. Cambridge, of Ashburton, will leave on March 8- for England with a party of 40 trampers, which will travel under the auspices of the Youth Hostel Association. The trampers will be in London for the Coronation, alter which they will divide into small groups, each bound for a tramping tour in different districts. Miss E. Sandrey, who is oiig of the leaders of the party, was on the staff of the AHenton School last year, and is teaching atlhe Woolston School this year.
A Press Association telegram states that further evidence that Sir Harry Lauder will lie coming to New Zealand is contained in a letter to Mr G. H. Elder, of Dunedin. The letter states: “Sir Harry thanks you for your letter. The papers had it all wrong. He only cancelled, his visit for three weeks. IVe sail for New Zealand on February 27, when he hopes to catch some big fish. —Greta Lauder.” A cable message received earlier in the month stated that Sir Harry Lauder had decided to cancel his trip to New Zealand and would fish at Bermagui, New South Wales, instead. A Wellington telegram states that /Sir Harry Lauder will arrive by the Ana tea from Sydney on Tuesday and will spend seme weeks in the Dominion, visiting friends in both islands and fishing at Tongarir.o and elsewhere.
