BOOKMAKER FINED.

COMMENT BY MAGISTRATE.

(Per Press Association ) AUCKLAND, February 18

“Most bookmakers are sports, and if they are spoils they must accept the situation with equanimity when they are caught. When they take on this illegal work they should take their gruel when caught. They know the consequences and it is only occasionally that they are caught. Big penalties seem to have no effect on them,” said Mr G. R. On* Walker S.M., in the Police Court this morning in fining Edward Byers, aged 41, £3O for bookmaking.
