FIF/TY YEARS SYNE (From the “Guardian,” Feb. 13, 1887) Representations on Harbour Board. —At a special meeting of the Ashburton County Council this morning, at which Messrs W. C. Walker (chairman) • D. McLean, E. G. Wright and E. S. Coster were present, Mr Wright was elected the Council’s representative on the "Lyttelton Harbour Board. Sale of Town Hall.—To-day the Ashburton Town Hall was submitted foi sale by public auction by Mr F» C. Tab-art, on behalf of the - liquidators. Not much is to be expected , from the city people, and it is only when the excursionists are largely country people that much money is spent. -, The Grass Grub Pest.—Professor Thomas and Doctor Cockayne, the Government biologists, arrived in Ashburton this morning to investigate the grass grub pest, which has already made its appearance on some farms.
